High XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
Level 15+
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!

I swapped Chrominius with the Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling with 1-2-1. Skip switching to level pet, and just Thunderbolt > Explode, moth dies and level pet gets maximum experience.

A neater script (with carrypet swap in/out):

change(#2) [ self(#3).active ]
ability(#1) [ enemy(#1).active ]
ability(#3)
ability(#2)
change(#3)

Been using it since early Legion, never had a problem.

If you don't care about levelling, you could use this instead:

ability(#1) [ enemy(#1).active ]
ability(#3)
ability(#2)
change(#2)

I wouldn't spam Tail Sweep until the book dies. Usually, you'll have it below 114HP after 3 attacks so it gets killed by Arcane Storm split damage.
This way vs. Helpful Spirit you can start with Mana Surge directly which usually leads to 1 less round of enemy AoE on your level pet.
If you use Tail Sweep in the Spirits extra turn, you get the dragonkin passive and then hit hard with a second Storm when the Moth comes in. You won't need Howl this way and if Arcane Storm crits and kills the moth directly it's even better since our Nexus Whelpling will die to CoD and the XP will go to our Level Pet anyways.

(With this change we could even think about replacing Chrominus with an Explode pet and forget about the level pet swap)

Script for the suggested change in the strategy:

change(#2) [ self(#3).active ]
use(Arcane Storm:589) [ enemy(#1).hp<114 &!enemy.aura(Undead:242).exists ]
ability(Mana Surge:489) [ weather(Arcane Winds:590) ]
use(Tail Sweep:122) [ !enemy(#3).active ]
ability(Surge of Power:593)
change(#3)

This only works with a P/S Nexus Whelpling or Stormborne Whelpling, as they are the same speed as Breezy Book and do less damage with Tail Sweep. If you have a P/P or P/B Nexus Whelpling then you'll always kill Breezy Book with three hits of Tail Sweep. Even with a P/S, you can still kill the book with three hits if you crit. (edited)

Berendain

wrote on 2019-10-21 02:09:43

Idea: Use Arcane Storm when you have the Dragonkin Racial (and add a conditional so your Whelpling doesn't use Mana Surge on enemy pet(#1)). This would solve both the breed restriction and the possibility of crits leading to killing the book on turn 3.

use(Arcane Storm:589) [self.aura(Dragonkin:245).exists &!enemy.aura(Undead:242).exists]
use(Mana Surge:489) [!enemy(Breezy Book:1897).active]
use(Arcane Storm:589) [enemy(Delicate Moth:1899).active]
use(Tail Sweep:122)
use(Explode:282)
change(#2)

Testing this strat and it works with any breed of Nexus Whelpling. I was timing it at 1:13-1:19. A P/P Nexus Whelpling is so close to killing off Delicate Moth with Arcane Storm. It has 20 hp left for the explode, so if the Arcane Storm crits it will be faster.

Edit: I posted this version of the strategy here, with TD script.

Yeah was using a P/S breed and didn't realize this strat doesn't have the breed restriction, so thanks for pointing it out and going deeper into it.

Just want to add that it doesn't really require a 15+ pet-- Merayl's first two pets cleave with Arcane Explosion that will do around 600 magic damage assuming no crits.

If you can tolerate risking the low chance of multiple criticals, you can do this with pets as low as level 11 or so (>700 HP) for all families other than mechanical (>470 HP) and flying (>1050 HP).

This is extremely relevant knowledge. Would be great if a note up top were to be added to the strat, so that users don't have to scroll through comments to find it. Thanks, mods!

endif
if [enemy(#3).active]

It wouldn't let me edit the original script and I came across a case in my testing (60 battles) where sometimes when the whelpling lives too long the moth may get a lucky crit on Chrominius. Below is a corrected version that uses the whelpling's last move to add damage to the moth right before it dies to pet 2's debuff. What this does it make it less likely that Chrominius will need to howl before surging, so even if there's a crit your Chrominius will survive. (Note: This was only tested with P/P Nexus Whelplings)

if [enemy(#1).active]
ability(122)
endif
if [ enemy(#2).active ]
ability(589) [enemy.round=1]
ability(489) [enemy.round=2]
ability(589)

ability(#2) [enemy.hp > 1100]

When using the TD Script it stalls after the leveling pet gets swapped in for me... anyone else have this issue?

wrote on 2018-08-12 20:29:02

It seems that the script doesn't account for the chance that the Nexus Whelp can survive fighting Helpful Spirit. I'm going to try some edits on the script if I can replicate that happening again.

Thatpally

It broke on me when I got a crit on the second tick of Mana Surge and killed the Helpful Spirit a round early. I haven't been able to replicate it yet across a few repeats on my alts to test anything. It may just be one of those you have to watch for and know what to do if it breaks.

Modified code that seems to fix the issue of the script stalling if the Helpful Spirit dies with 2 turns remaining on the Curse of Doom. It's tested in that it doesn't break the current script from working, but I'm not sure if it actually solved the problem as I haven't been able to replicate it yet after 10 fights.

Excellent strategy. It is even more efficient to sub Chrominus with Darkmoon Zeppelin 2-2-1 , that way you can finish off Delicate Moth with Thunderbolt > Explode .

Urawizrdhari wrote on 2018-09-17 20:12:36

This is such a great strat to level up pets. I've been working on it for hours. Super simple.

Mnejing wrote on 2017-08-15 21:52:03

This is fantastic. I don't have a Nexus Whelpling, but Stormborne Whelpling does exactly the same.

Abi wrote on 2017-03-05 21:34:33

I find this so effective that my Chrominius is generally redundant. The P/S Nexus Whelpling I use can kill pets 1 and 2, and then dies leaving the 3rd pet with about 30 hp, making it trivial for my leveling pet (I use this strat to level 20+ pets only) to kill it.

Abi wrote on 2017-04-16 19:31:16

Finding this not to be the case post-7.2. While it still works fine, this isn't the only fight I find more difficult with my usual strat after the ToS patch.

Geki wrote on 2017-06-06 02:02:43

Yeah, just had that happen to me. 2 or 3 of the arcane storms critted on the final moth, and my chromie just had swap in and bite it for 30 to end the fight.

GreySage wrote on 2017-07-22 00:01:36

as of 7.25 I had nexus solo everything, leaving 20hp on the moth for my leveling pet to kill.

Santo wrote on 2017-06-25 06:40:38

Had to use Howl first before using Surge of Power to make sure my H/H Chrominios (it's all I have) killed the Moth and not leave him with with enough HP to win the battle.

Geki wrote on 2017-07-18 22:28:20

The moth should've been hit by two arcane storms before coming out, knocking it low enough for the surge of power (chrominius only comes in 1 breed) to take it out.

Do you use AutoComplete and the latest version of tdBPS? It's now supporting (name:ID) and it would be nice for language portability to also have IDs in your scripts.

And I don't know if someone already asked, are you interested in joining the XuFu "script team"?
