Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

This worked first try for me with a PP Anklerender, PP Kneebiter, and PS Footslasher.

Works Shadowlands prepatch.

Worked perfectly as of the 9.0.1 prepatch!

P/B Anklerender, so Atherton went first. Blind on turn 1, burrow turn 2, so Black Claw not applied until turn 3. Still finished him with Hunting Party and didn't need leap. So, like other fights against this group, speed isn't important but it's preferable.

Strat is solid, just be able to adjust on the fly based on your breed and Atherton's randomness and you should get through easy.

When I did most of these strats, Atherton wasn't using Blinding Poison, (which I'm assuming they adjusted with this patch), so I apologize. When I finish up in Gnomer, I'll be heading over to Night Horrors to see what I need to adjust on all these fights. :)

JestersTear

wrote on 2018-12-12 00:10:02

Yeah, as you point out, his randomness makes things weird. Like I said though, the strat works fine as long as the player can adjust on the fly based on what Atherton does.

Khes

wrote on 2018-12-15 20:25:05

it's random, been doing full families vs these guys and it's completely random what order the enemies use abilities, so not every strat works perfectly, needs a priority instead of by turn list. can still make most of the fights work even with the top strats.

i've just been loading the pets and using my own judgement on which abilities to use when

JBF wrote on 2020-05-08 15:33:46

Yeah, I swapped my Zandalari around and put my fastest (faster than Atherton) in slot#1. It helped reduce a lot of the guessing

Yshta wrote on 2020-04-15 07:44:55

As an alternate to the 3rd Zandalari pet, I used a Desert Spider with 2/2/1 abilities. Use Poison Spit, then Brittle Webbing, then 2 Leech Life. The dots killed the last pet with 300 health still left.

Myzvale wrote on 2018-12-15 17:31:46

If you have the Mining Monkey from Deadmines, take him in the first slot, use Quake on CD and use some other moves inbetween - almost solo's the fight

iphegenia#1809

wrote on 2019-06-08 02:30:08

I tried this, but the RNG gods frowned upon me and the Monkey died with the first spider. Still won, though, plus I got to use the Monkey, so it's all good. =)

Lerna

The strat works perfect!! I used all S/S Zandalari. On Atherton I just leaped until he did his Burrow and then I started with Black Claw and Hunting Party.

Firstborndragon wrote on 2019-02-20 21:21:02

Worked fine, never needed the third pet. Did have to do a swap with starting with two leaps, just to avoid the poison.

Didn't have a leveled toenibbler, used a baby zandalari raptor with 1,1,1. In the 3rd slot, he only has black claw, but I didn't need him. The first 2 did all 3 enemy pets. He sure looked cute sitting in that slot though.

wrote on 2019-01-14 11:39:32

Zandalari works great ! I had to do 2 claw cause Atherton got underground at first, then it blinded me. And still, managed to kill the 3 without using my third Zandalari ^^

Kateuk

wrote on 2018-12-31 15:29:06

I used a fox with dazzling dance/howl/bite in the first slot as I only had anklerender and kneebiter levelled. Howl on cooldown, dazzling dance while blinded and bite finished off Atherton and Bybee leaving my third pet unused.
