Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

It works for either kind of imps, but requires a slight bifurcation at one point. :(
(Which side does the P/S Rebel belong to?)

High XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
Level 1+
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.

I know it's probably not the smallest, but it should work without any problems. Hopefully.

if [!self(#1).dead]
ability(Nether Gate) [self.round=1 & enemy.round=1]
ability(Sear Magic) [self.round=3 & enemy.round=2]
change(#2) [!self(#2).played & enemy(#1).active]
change(#1) [self(#2).played]
ability(Flamethrower)

ability(Mana Surge) [enemy(#3).active & weather(Arcane Winds)]
ability(Tail Sweep) [enemy.hp<451]
ability(Arcane Storm) [!weather(Arcane Winds)]

Forth line down ( change(#2) [!self(#2).played & enemy(#1).active] ) change it to ( change(#2) [!self(#2).played & enemy(The Great Kaliri).active] )

A bit late to the party, but the description had a mistake, now edited out. Did you catch and fix it? :)

Anon wrote on 2018-11-05 10:36:23

It is possible I did but I don't remember. Also; sometimes during the battle your Imp will still have a good deal more health than Apexis Guardian's Entangling Roots can deal so you end up killing it without your Imp being killed. At that point I have found you can swap in your battle pet then swap back to the Imp to soak that attack, killing it and letting you bring in your Whelpling without any extra damage being taken. Also reworked the script since I've been working on and learning how it works for a lot longer now.

change(#1) [enemy(#2).dead & !self(#1).dead]
change(#2) [enemy(#2).dead & !self(#2).played]
change(#3) [enemy(#2).dead & self(#1).dead]
use(#3) [!enemy(#2).active]
use(Sear Magic:763) [self.aura(Entangling Roots:399).exists & self.hp>=463]
use(#2)

:O that was a lot of time, kudos for taking a look!
Indeed, at the beginning I described the Imp dying alongside Apexis Guardian, but then opted out of it due to the randomness involved. I like your way of thinking, however. Now, to come up with a simple description…

Anon wrote on 2018-11-08 23:01:46

You could do something like "Sear Magic (Health above 463 & Entangling Roots active).
You can also add in a thing of if Apexis Guardian dies early, change to leveling pet then back to your Imp.

(Now I'm late, again!) Reworked it to always be the case. Nexus finishing off Guardian's failsafe makes it much easier to play with its dragonkin racial, even if it gets hit three times.
EDIT: Does not work with imps with less power, I'll still need to put clauses, and would prefer to get a script for that other case. Ugh!

Strat and script worked perfectly for me with a PS imp and PP whelp.
